Abuja - The Rivers State governorship
hopeful, Dr Dakuku Peterside, has decried the spate of killings at Oyorokoto
fishing settlement in Andoni Local Government Area.
Unknown gunmen have perpetrated the deadly attacks at the
area, the largest fishing settlement in the entire West Coast of Africa.
“The spate of attacks and killings of innocent
inhabitants of Oyorokoto must be brought to an immediate halt so that the
settlement will continue to provide livelihood to the numerous fishermen and their
family members who live and work so hard for a livelihood at the settlement,”
The All Progressives Congress official stressed the need
for governments at all levels to exercise their responsibilities to protect
lives and property.

“Governments must not shirk their responsibility of
safeguarding life and property of citizens; this is the primary responsibility
of government everywhere,” Peterside stressed.
He called on security agents to diligently track down the
criminals behind the incessant attacks on the fishing settlement including all
those who might be sponsoring the criminals to ensure a final stop is put to
such activities in the area.
Peterside called on the inhabitants of Oyorokoto to
continue to be peaceful and vigilant but refrain from resorting to any actions
that might bring them in collision course with the authorities.
