Wamakko condemns killing of Islamic cleric

06 February 2014, 12:11

Sokoto - Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State on Wednesday condemned the murder of the Zaria-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Adam Albani.

The condemnation is contained in a statement issued in Sokoto by the Senior Special Assistant on Media Affairs to the governor, Sani Umar.

Wamakko, in the statement, called on the Federal Government and other security agencies to ensure that those behind the killing were brought to book.

"The murder of the Islamic cleric is an indication that there is no security in Nigeria.

"Thus, the Federal Government and security agencies should make sure that they apply whatever it takes to unravel those behind the dastardly act."

The statement appealed to the authorities not to ''swept under the carpet like other unresolved killings in the country".

It said that the gruesome murder of the cleric had shown that Nigerians were no longer safe in the country.
