Abuja - The Ministry of Water Resources has pledged its commitment to ensure sustainability to the country's dams in order to contribute to economic growth.
Speaking in Abuja during an event to mark World Water Day, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Musa Istifanus, said that the Ministry was focused on ensuring that the nation's dams enhanced socio-economic activities.

The event was held under the theme, ³Water and Sustainable Development.
This (theme) is a clarion call to all the stakeholders to come together to ensure that the natural resources are developed in a
sustainable manner, he said.
Water is at the core of sustainable development and is critical for socio-economic development, healthy ecosystems and for human survival itself. It is vital for reducing the global burden of disease and improving the health, welfare and productivity of populations, Istifanus said.
He explained the present administration had committed a lot of resources in ensuring development in the sector, adding that some of the abandoned projects in the sector had been completed.
