We are ready for Anambra local council polls- Police

08 January 2014, 21:35

Awka - The Police Commissioner in Anambra, Usman Gwary, on Wednesday assured the public of adequate security during the councils' election in the state on January 11.

Gwary told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to ensure a hitch-free council poll.

He said that Anambra was no longer violent as it was in the past, stressing that many things, particularly politics, had changed for good.

"Police will provide environment conducive for a successful council election as was done during the governorship poll in November last year," Gwary said.

The commissioner, however, solicited for the cooperation of the citizens to ensure efficient policing of the state during the period.

He assured the public that with the support of other security agencies, peace would be maintained before, during and after the council poll.

NAN reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it has filed a suit challenging the conduct of the proposed council elections.
