Sokoto - Ahmed Ishaku, the Area Comptroller of Customs in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara, said his men were battle ready to prevent smuggling in the states.
Isyaku said in Sokoto on Sunday that operational order to check smuggling activities had been issued to the men posted to the borders areas.
"We cannot be intimidated by smugglers as we are ready to confront them," he said, adding that a well coordinated security measure had been put in place to arrest and prosecute smugglers.

According to Ishaku, some communities in the frontline local local government areas were not happy with the officers posted to man the borders.
"We will do all that we can to prevent smuggling and arrest, as well as prosecute those behind the illegal business," he vowed.
Isyaku called on traditional rulers in the various border communities to sensitise the people to shun illegal businesses.
"My area of jurisdiction is a no-go-area for smugglers as competent and dedicated officers have been positioned to prevent smuggling," he said.
