Abuja - President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday reiterated that the government was winning the war against terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery and other vices.
Jonathan spoke at a New Year service at All Saints Anglican Church, Wuse. ``We shall overcome terrorism, kidnapping and armed robbery with more prayers from the Church.
``Most of the terror suspects have been arrested. ``Most people will not know what the security agencies have been doing.
``The people who bombed the Police Headquarters, the UN House and St Theresa's Catholic Church in Madalla have been arrested. ``We will continue to improve security architecture.
``The new year will be better for the country," he said.
The president solicited the continued prayers of the Church for the country to overcome its challenges. He said: ``the Church's prayers have been helping us to stabilise the country at the time of challenge.
``There was time the country was drifting and everyone thought the country will not endure but the prayers rescued us.’’
The president assured Nigerians that his administration would continue with the drives for employment creation by encouraging the private sector and entrepreneurs to grow.
In a sermon, the Primate of the Anglican Communion, the Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, said the Church all over the world was celebrating the naming and circumcision of Jesus Christ as well as the New Year. Speaking on the theme, "circumcise your heart", Okoh urged Nigerians to have a positive change of heart.
He admonished teachers and students who dressed indecently on campuses to "circumcise their hearts" For the market women who sell fake products; petrol dealers and transporters who hike prices at festive periods, kidnappers, armed robbers and terrorist group, the clergy called on them to have a positive change of heart.
He advised young men and women who were in haste to ride jeeps even before graduating from school, to be patient and to "circumcise their hearts". Okoh also urged traditional rulers, university authorities, who sold chieftaincy titles and doctorates to those who did not deserve them to similarly "circumcise their hearts".
The President's mother, Madam Ayi, Minister of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade and Minister of State, FCT, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide and some presidential aides attended the service. NAN
