Kaduna - Gov. Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna State has ordered the closure of filling stations violating the environmental laws of the state.
Yakowa gave the order on Thursday in Kaduna while inspecting the Ahmadu Bello Memorial lane during the environmental sanitation exercise in the state.
``Filling Stations on Ahmadu Bello Way lag behind in proper environmental standards and I am not happy with the filthy environment.
He urged the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to sanction shops, filling stations, offices, homes and schools flouting the environmental laws.
Yakowa warned that on no account should filling stations on major streets in the state create illegal dump sites within their premises.
He also warned against the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the state capital, adding: ``waste management is a collective responsibility and residents should imbibe the best environmental practice."
The governor urged the state Ministry of Health and the concerned authorities to evacuate insane persons roaming major streets across the state.
