Gov. Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara said on Monday in Gusau that all those in connection with the alleged N3 billion fertilizer scam in the state would be sanctioned.
Yari said this at a campaign rally ahead of next Saturday’s local council elections in the state.
He said that the matter would be investigated and that all those involved in the alleged purchase and sale of N3 billion worth of fertilizer in the immediate past administration would be punished.
``When we over the mantle of leadership from the PDP-led administration of Mamuda Shinkafi, we realised that fertilizer worth N3 billion was purchased by the state government and allegedly distributed to our farmers.
“There is no record to show that such fertilizer was purchased or any record to show that our farmers had benefited from the commodity.
``So we will probe the matter and I assure you anyone found wanting in this scam will face the full wrath of the law.”
The governor said there was evidence to show that funds had been taken from the state coffers for the payment of the commodity
NAN reports that the state government is currently selling fertilizer to farmers in the state at the subsidised rate of N1, 000 per bag.
Yari, however, said that there was no record to show that the amount was used for the purpose it was meant.
He said that already, his administration had settled N2.7 billion out of the N3 billion as part of inherited liabilities from the last administration.
He said that his administration had started implementing all its campaign promises such as road construction and rehabilitation as well as the provision of water.
“We intend to complete all our projects before the end of this administration.”
