Abuja - The Yobe State Government will this year pay more than N1.2 billion
(more than US$7 million) as pension to the more than 1 800 retirees in the
Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has set up a committee under the chairmanship of Alhaji
Bukar Chidami, the former executive chairman of the State Revenue Board to
oversee payment for state government retirees while the local government
pension board will undertake payment for workers who retired from local
“Prompt payment of benefits for government workers and retirees is part of His Excellency, Governor Gaidam administration’s continued effort to encourage and reward hard work and service delivery to the people of the state.
"His Excellency Governor Gaidam is determined to continue with this and other measures to ensure that workers who have served the state and retired are assisted to a dignified and comfortable life in retirement,” Abdullahi Bego, Special Adviser on Press Affairs and Information to the Governor, said.
He said Gaidam had approved N1.263 billion as payment of pension for 1 864
retirees in the services of state and local governments for the current year.
Out of this amount, N590 million will be paid to 1 296 people who have retired from the services of the state government while N673 million will be paid to 568 local government retirees, said Bego.
He added, “The governor calls on workers in the employ of both the state and local governments to continue to dedicate themselves and do their utmost to serve the people.” - CAJ News
