Youth Ministry wary of fake online accounts

17 April 2014, 18:23

Abuja - The Ministry of Youth Development has alerted the public and stakeholders of the on the existence of fake social network set up in the name of the Minister, Boni Haruna.

The accounts were identified as boni.haruna.3; boni.haruna.7; boni.haruna.12; boni.haruna.31 and pages/boniharuna on Facebook and @boniharuna14 and @boniharuna1 on Twitter.

“The Honourable Minister did not open nor authorize or instruct anyone or group of persons to initiate or actualize such accounts on his behalf. Evidently, this must be seen as the handiwork of some crooked and unscrupulous elements whose motives can only be to defraud innocent youths and unwary members of the public,” Olusola Abiola, Head, Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, stated.

Abiola advised the public and stakeholders against associating with these accounts.

“The Honourable Minister will not be held liable for any unforeseen or unpalatable consequences which may arise from any conversation or dealings with those behind these nefarious activities.”

The Ministry stated that Haruna appreciated and supported the utilization of the varying platforms embedded in the social media for effective interface and mobilization of the youths of this great country for national development but it remained imperative to emphasize the need to condemn and discourage any unsolicited and criminal use of the social media and the new media technologies in general.
