Abuja - A National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) member serving in Ikono Local Government Area has initiated a free internship computer training programme for youths in the region.
Olaleyi Raphael Akintara, speaking at the inauguration of the skill acquisition programme, said he decided to organize the project as part of his personal Community Development Service (CDS) to the people of Ikono.
He said initially, the training will take place at the Government Primary School, Aka Ekpeme Mbad and Conference Hall of the D9 Hotel. The training will consist of theoretical and practical classes.
According to him, the programme will last for three months.
In his remarks, Vice Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area, Benjamin Ukpem, commended the corps member for undertaking to train the youths of the area in information technology and communications technology.
He said it would go a long way in complementing the free and compulsory education programme of the state government.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the member representing Ikono in the State House of Assembly, Victor Udofia, called on the youth to make the most of the programme.
“Computer knowledge is the best legacy in a progressive society,” said Udofia.
