Youth slam Sylva’s appointment to lead inauguration committee

27 April 2015, 18:38

Abuja - The National Youth Democratic Vanguard (NYDV) expressed worry at former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva’s appointment as head of Inauguration committee of the All Progressives Congress.

The organization noted Sylva was accused and still standing trial on a number of charges as theft, corruption, money laundering and abuse of office, among others.

“We as a people and a group cannot pretend that all is well,” stated Olufemi Lawson, National Coordinator of NYDV.

“As the transition process for a new government started, it came to us as a rude shock that a personality accused and standing trials with a number of his assets seized has been appointed to head the Inauguration committee of the APC and General Muhammad Buhari a supposed saint and anti corruption crusader.”

Lawson said the appointment was against the spirit of fighting corruption.

“Where then is the purity and where lies the assurance that there is a will to fight corruption when the corrupt gets to lead. There is the fundamental issue of change. To achieve change we must build a Genuine Working People’s Alternative devoid of corrupt personalities.”
