Zenith founder Ovia gets lifetime banking award

Lagos - Zenith Bank chairman, Jim Ovia, has been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the just-ended Africa Banker Awards.

The executive has received the accolade at a prestigious Gala Dinner held in Abidjan in the Ivory Coast.

The ninth edition of the awards coincided with the African Development Bank annual meeting.

According to organizers, Ovia is an outstanding leader and entrepreneur who founded Zenith Bank, which is one of the country's best performing banks.

Apart from Ovia, Nigeria provided another winner on the form of Africa Finance Corporation which won the Infrastructure Deal of the Year, MasterCard International hosted this year’s awards.

Speaking at the event, MasterCard's Division President for Sub-Saharan Africa, Daniel Monehin, said, “We believe that the African Banker Awards understands precisely what excellence in banking means - one only has to consider the Award winners and nominees. This is why we are proud to support these Awards."

Ecobank/Nedbank, Banque Internationale pour l'Afrique au Congo (BIAC), Banque Altantique, Groupe Banque Centrale Populaire, GT Bank and Coris Bank International also supported the Awards, along with ECAir, Sopra Banking Software and Travelex.
