Abba Moro trial adjourned till September

01 July 2016, 21:25

Abuja - The trial of former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, has been adjourned to September.

The adjournment was reached on Friday at the Federal High Court in Abuja where he is under probe for his alleged role in a deadly recruitment scheme that occurred in 2014.

The Nigeria Immigration recruitment tragedy occurred in March 2014, when 6,5 million people in all states of Nigeria stormed various recruitment centers in the country for the 4 000 vacant positions in the Nigeria Immigration Service.

At least 16 job seekers were confirmed dead and several scores were injured.

The major causes of death were overcrowding, stampede, exhaustion and impatience of the applicants.

At the hearing on Friday, a former Controller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, David Paradang, testified as the first prosecution witness.

He told the court he voiced out his concerns about the recruitment exercise and that all suggestions on how to stage the exercise process were turned down an action which resulted in the death of applicants.

Justice Anwuli Chikere has adjourned the case to September 29.
