Air Force seeks US equipment overhaul to fight terror

27 April 2016, 20:12

Abuja - The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is soliciting support from the United States to sustain the fight against insurgency in the Northeast.

The request is geared towards overcoming delay and hitches currently associated with equipment overhaul and provision of aircraft spares.

The Air Force is also seeking for assistance in the area of training for pilots, engineers and other operations support specialists.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, stated this during a meeting with the management of Lockheed Martin Corporation and Textron Aviation, the manufacturers of C-130H and Beechcraft King Air 350i aircraft respectively.

Abubakar said the objective of the meeting was to establish rapport with the concerned US authorities with a view to strengthening identified areas of mutual cooperation that would enhance NAF’s overall operational readiness and efforts in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

He said the meeting was in the light of the delays that are currently being experienced in spares procurement.

“The meeting with the companies will henceforth fast-track the procurement process and cut costs,” Abubakar said.
