Anambra commits to catching them young

Abuja - The Anambra State has embarked on concerted efforts towards empowering talented children and youths in local schools and communities.

The administration of Governor Willie Obiano aims to achieve that through its Grassroots Sports Development initiative.

It has collaborated with Channels Inc LTD for the 2016 Channels National Kids Cup Competition, which kicked off last week and will run until May 20.

The competition, is to be organised on Zonal basis using the 6 Educational Zones in the State, namely, Awka, Aguata, Nnewi, Ogidi, Onitsha and Otuocha.

It is for primary school pupils aged under 13.

Practice is ongoing by different teams in their various zones.

Uju Nwogu, Commissioner for Youth Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, said the Obiano administration was poised to bring out the best in the children of Anambra.

“(This is to ensure) that they may shine out as the Light of the Nation.”
