APC calls for FG intervention

16 February 2016, 20:23

Abuja - The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Federal Government to intervene amid allegations some members in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) had been killed.

APC Chairman for the region, Davies Ikanya, alleged recently, gunmen shot dead an APC Ward Chairman, referred to as Mr. Owotor while a member of the APC of ONELGA origin, Monday Eleanya, was gunned down around Ada-George area of Port Harcourt where he lives.

Cultists and PDP members, whose party had not commented, have been cited as the suspects.

The APC raised worry investigations had not commenced.

“The APC calls on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to come to the rescue of the people of ONELGA as the primary purpose of government anywhere in the world is the protection of lives and property of the citizens,” Ikanya said.

“We do not hesitate to call for the instant sack of the leadership of any security agency that fails to help the government carry out this primary and all-important responsibility of protecting lives and property of the people.”

Ikanya called on the Presidency, Minister of the Interior, Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police to take urgent steps to stem the alleged ongoing unrestrained killings that had turned the state into a “shameful killing field.”

The Roil-rich Rivers State has over the months been a scene of tensions between APC and Rivers.

Last year, a controversial election catapulted Nyesom Wike (PDP) to power.

APC does not recognise him.
