APC threatens lawmakers over Zamfara governor's impeachment

21 July 2016, 18:35

Zamfara - The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Zamfara state has threatened to penalise the state lawmakers if they fail to ditch their plan to impeach the Governor Abdulaziz Yari, Daily Trust reports.

Deputy chairman of the APC in the state, Lawali Bala Yabakaco, asked legislators to tender unreserved apology over their alleged plot to impeach Governor Yari or be dealt with.

Yabakaco said the lawmakers were self-centred for accusing Governor Yari of gross misconduct in the way he ran the affairs of the state.

He said the lawmakers only came up with the impeachment plot after they made ‘selfish demands’ which were turned down by Governor Yari.

News24 previously reported that Governor Yari reportedly ordered the arrest of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Sanusi Rikiji, his deputy, Muhammad Gumi and other principal officers of the Assembly.

They were arrested by operatives from the State Security Services (DSS) over accusation of  plotting to impeach the governor.

The lawmakers are currently being detained in Abuja.

It was gathered other members of the state assembly have left for Abuja after the arrest of the principal officers.
