25 February 2016, 11:01Augustine Osayande

Abuja - Armed Special Forces have blocked an attempt by suspected members of Boko Haram to attack a prominent camp sheltering hundreds of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Borno State.

Unfortunately, a soldier and a member of the local vigilante died during the encounter at Dikwa refugees camp.

Three soldiers and four IDPs sustained injuries.

Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, said the insurgents laid siege on the IDPs facility following their dislodgement in the border towns of Kumshe and Talala by joint operations of Nigerian and Cameroonian forces.

"From all indications, the terrorists aimed at causing havoc at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp located at Dikwa," he said.

Usman said the casualties had seen been evacuated and the troops were pursuing those terrorists that  escaped with gunshot wounds.

Usman was encouraged despite loss of a colleague and the vigilante, the troops had maintained a dominating presence in the terror-prone areas.
