Arrested Supreme Court judge indicts Akpabio

18 October 2016, 18:00

Abuja - Former governor of Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio has been indicted by one of the arrested Supreme Court judges, Justice John Okoro, reports Sahara Reporters.

Okoro was said to have told operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) during interrogation that Akpabio gave him a bribe of $20 000 when he was appointed to the exalted judiciary position in 2013.

Akapbio was governor of Akwa Ibom for eight years from 2007 to 2015 .

It was during his second term in office, between 2011 and 2015 that he reportedly bribed Justice Okoro.

Akpabio according to News 24 had earlier denied bribing any Supreme Court judge.

Akpabio, who is the Senate Minority Leader,  had described as “spurious, baseless and false”, a story published on the social media that he bribed Supreme Court judges to swing the 2015 Akwa Ibom governorship election petition in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Udom Emmanuel.
