Abuja – At least 800 members of the Boko Haram terrorist group have surrendered their arms, the Nigerian army says, according to Naij.
Defence information Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar reportedly made the disclosure on Wednesday.
"I can confirm that about 800 of the Boko Haram members have surrendered to the military," he was quoted as saying.
The announcement came, as reports indicated on Wednesday that a camp had been constructed to rehabilitate and reintegrate Boko Haram militants who have surrendered and were sorry for their actions.
The camp "is geared towards rehabilitating and reintegrating the repentant and the surrendering Boko Haram members back into normal life," the military reportedly said in a statement.
The army, did not, however, give details of the camp or how it was run, but said the repentant militants would be given vocational training to enable them to contribute to the economy of the country.
