Abuja - A riot broke out at Kuje Prison, Abuja, on Monday following resistance from some inmates who refused to have their cells checked for banned items.
According to a Punch report, sporadic gunshots and tear gas were fired within the prison precinct in order to restore law and order and keep rampaging inmates under control.
Daniel Odharo, Controller of Prisons in FCT, confirmed yesterday that there is allegedly no crisis at the prison, while stating that no inmates had escaped or had been injured during the fracas.

"During the search, they found 25 handsets with a Boko Haram suspect. After a search of the convicts’ cells, they moved to the awaiting-trial cells," the source stated.
