Dogara, Buhari in a closed door meeting over budget padding

05 August 2016, 16:09

Abuja - President Muhammadu Buhari is currently meeting with the embattled Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara over the allegations of budget padding by principal officers of the House, Herald reports.

Dogara had been accused of padding the 2016 budget by former chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin.

The Speaker was said to have arrived at the President’s office at around 2:30pm for the meeting with Buhari.

The details of the meeting are unknown but will be revealed in due course.

News24 had earlier reported that Dogara sought audience with President Muhammadu Buhari over the budget padding scandal rocking the House.

Dogara is scheduled to meet with the President bare any last minute change at 4.30pm on Friday.

A former chairman of the appropriations committee of the House, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has accused the Speaker and other principal officers of the House of padding the 2016 budget.

Dogara will also be requesting the President to help call Jibrin and his backers to order.

The crisis has deeply polarised the House, with the allegations made by Jibrin now being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), the State Security Service and the Nigeria Police Force.
