Buhari in talks with Niger Delta Avengers

22 July 2016, 06:23

Abuja - President Muhammadu Buhari confirmed that he was currently holding talks with the Niger Delta Avengers in an attempt to negotiate an end to the continuous vandalism of oil facilities in the region, Punch reports.

He confirmed the talks were being done through mediators of oil companies and law-enforcement agencies with the objective to find a solution to the instability in the Niger region.

Buhari in a statement said that his administration were analyzing the Amnesty Program inherited from the previous administration with the objective of fulfilling any outstanding commitments previously made.

"We understand their feelings. We are studying the instruments. We have to secure the environment, otherwise investment will not come.  We will do our best for the country," President Buhari said.

News24 Nigeria reported that the Concerned Militant Leaders (CML), another Niger Delta militant group on Wednesday hijacked a vessel with a Liberian flag along Bakassi Peninsula of Nigerian waterways.

The group said it seized the ship as part of its grievances against the Federal Government and to cripple the economy.
