Buhari intent on destroying herdsmen

14 July 2016, 06:59

Abuja - President Muhammadu Buhari said that he is confident that the Nigerian Army is equipped to eradicate the violent threat posed by herdsmen for once and for all and finally put an end to cattle rustling, banditry and other security threats, Naij reports.

President was speaking during an address to the Nigerian Army in celebration of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration in Zamfara State.

Buhari noted that the incessant threat of herdsmen in the area made it near impossible for sustainable farming, livestock management and other economic activities.

"I am quite optimistic that the operations of the last few days will surely lead to the restoration of economic activities of surrounding communities bedeviled for some time now by the menace of cattle rustling and banditry," he said.

Buhari stated that he was quite confident in the Nigerian Armed Forces' capabilities to resolutely confront contemporary and emerging security challenges in the country.

News24 Nigeria reported that following allegations by the Niger Delta Avengers that there was a plot by high ranking officials in the Nigerian Army to overthrow President Muhammadu Buhari's administration, the military has now started monitoring the calls and texts of soldiers.
