Buhari returns budget, holds meeting with Saraki on Friday

22 April 2016, 06:51

Abuja - President Muhammadu Buhari and leaders within the National Assembly are set to meet today over the controversial 2016 budget document.

According to Punch, Senate President Bukola Saraki, as well as House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara with meet with Buhari at Aso Rock today, where the 2016 Budget Appropriation Bill will be the topic of discussion.

Although Buhari is said to have returned the fiscal document to the National Assembly earlier on in the week, "grey areas" within the port have remained a contentious issue.

“The meeting will be held on Friday; the point is that efforts are on by the executive and the National Assembly to resolve the budget dispute once and for all.

“Mr. President is expected to be at the meeting with his economic team so that all sides will be on the same page,” a senior legislative official said.

It is believed that the President will be presented with two options regarding the budget - either a supplementary budget will be presented or Buhari will sign the already-passed document and areas of high importance can be implemented immediately.

Buhari had previously refused to append his signature to the Appropriation Bill, citing disagreements between the National Assembly and the executive as the reason.
