Buhari to meet Jonathan over N/Delta avengers

17 May 2016, 17:33

Abuja - There are strong indications that President Muhammadu Buhari may meet his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan over recent attacks by the militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, on oil and gas installations in the Niger Delta, reports Daily Trust.

The former President, who hails from the region, is likely to visit the Presidential Villa within the week for talks with Buhari on the issue.

The group has claimed responsibility for attacks that reportedly resulted in a sharp drop in the nation’s oil output from 2.2m to 1.65m barrels per day.

The militants had last Thursday issued a two-week ultimatum to oil companies in the region to evacuate their staff or risk more attacks.

Jonathan’s visit will be a follow up to similar visits by two governors from the region according to Daily Post.

While Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa visited Buhari last week on the issue, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers was at the Villa on Monday over the same issue.
