Lafia - The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) has alleged that the corruption war being waged by President Muhammadu Buhari is targeted on former and serving elected/appointed office holders of the Christian faith.
National President of the association, Daniel Kadzai, made the assertion in a signed statement made available to journalists in Lafia on monday.
Kadznai oted that the recent call for the removal and prosecution of the Secretary to the Government of Federation, SGF, David Babachir Lawal, by the Senate over alleged corrupt practices and abuse of office was another attempt to remove a Christian from the office of the SGF,
He stressed that the call was suspicious given the undertone of the senators and the targeted schemes against the SGF which must be condemned by well meaning Nigerians.
The statement said some agents within and outside the Senate could afford to throw stones because their glass houses are being protected by the immunity clause.
“Little wonder corrupt elected officials struggle to find a hiding place in the Senate.
Those with questionable characters of amazing wealth with public funds should waive immunity and allow due process as is done in developed democracies. Rather today, they have turned fifth columnists against perceived or real enemies.
“We, Christian youths, are calling on the president to tread with caution and be focused on due process rather than the boys scout approach of the Senate and the sometimes guerilla approach of some security operatives who are agents of fifth columnists bent on truncating the anti-corruption war of this administration.
“It is ironic that gallant officers like Air Chief Marshal Badeh and Amosu are being persecuted because of their Christian faith, while Major-General Tukur Buratai, President Buhari’s Chief of Army Staff, bought houses in Dubai against public service rules and yet is still heading the army and has never even been questioned.
“People like Femi Kayode are just being persecuted because they are Christians.
We condemn totally the utterances of Professor Ishaq Oleyede, who is supposed to be the Registrar of JAMB, but is acting as the spokesperson of the Shariah Council of Nigeria.”
