05 July 2016, 18:21

Abuja - Irate motocyclists burnt a patrol vehicle in Makurdi, Benue State on Sunday after one of their members was crushed to death by a car belonging to the police, Daily Post reports.

The incident is said to have occurred when a patrol team on routine assignment in the area accidentally hit the okada rider, killing him instantly.

"What angered the people was that police refused to take the victims to hospital despite being responsible for the accident. Few minutes later, sympathisers called officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, who took both the dead and injured to the hospital," an eyewitness reported at the scene.

Though calm eventually returned to the area, police drafted officials to the capital to maintain peace and ensure another riot is prevented from ensuing, Vanguard reports.
