CCT adjourns Saraki’s trial again

18 March 2016, 14:09

Abuja - The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has adjourned the alleged false assets declaration trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki to March 24, 2016.

President of the CCT, Danladi Umar, who adjourned the trial on Friday, said the court will on that day rule on the motion on jurisdiction of the Tribunal  to try Saraki.

Before the adjournment, Saraki’s lead counsel, Kanu Agabi had told the court to discharge and acquit Saraki the way it was done for former governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinub five years ago .

Agabi told the CCT panel that the Code of Conduct Bureau case was flawed as Saraki was not invited, when it had an issue over his asset declaration.

He said failure to inform Saraki was against the principle of fair trial.

He, however, agreed that there are aspects of the charges against Saraki that can be prosecuted elsewhere.
