15 January 2016, 07:05

Abuja - President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered a fresh probe into the abduction of 219 girls kidnapped from a government secondary school in Chibok in 2014, Punch has reported.

According to a statement released by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said the President has called for the set-up of a new panel to investigate the incident.

Soon to be announced by National Security Adviser Babagana Munguno, the committee will analyse the events surrounding the girls' abduction on April 14, 2014.

Speaking during a meeting with the parents of the girls, as well as community representatives and members of #BringBackOurGirls, Buhari assured relatives of the girls that the government is doing all it can to ensure their rescue and re-unite them with their families.

The president's announcement followed a statement made by campaign leader Oby Ezkwesili, saying that Buhari has no credible information on the whereabouts of the abducted girls.

Ezkwesili also said that her organization would continue to demand action and to ensure that the girls are brought home.
