Communities urged to support Imo government

12 January 2016, 20:36

Abuja - The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, has urged communities to complement efforts by the Rochas Okorocha-led administration to enhance economic development in the region.

He made the remark through a spokesperson at the celebration of the elevation of Umualoma-Umuagii kindred to a village status by Governor Okorocha.

Represented by Dr Ifeanyi Ekenasi, his Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Madumere implored the people of the Umualoma to be developmentally conscious as their elevation to a village status by the governor is development oriented.

“Communities have to brace up with the present economic reality,” said Madumere's representative.

He said this required the need to refocus the country’s means of revenue generation to non-oil sector.

“The reason for creating communities is for administrative convenience with a view to mobilising the people at the rural areas towards attainment of economic development,” said the Deputy Governor’s representative.

The official thus highlighted the need to prioritise agriculture as a means of diversifying revenues.
