Court orders re-arrest of ex-militant Tompolo

09 February 2016, 07:05

Abuja - A Federal High Court in Lagos has renewed a warrant order for the arrest of ex-militant Government Ekpemupolo (commonly known as Tompolo), Premium Times has reported.

The warrant follows the ex-militant's failure to appear in court and has resulted in an order being sent out to security agencies to produce him before the court.

Tompolo, along with Patrick Akpobolokemi, have been accused of committing multibillion naira fraud at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

Festus Keyamo, counsel at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), earlier reported that all persons accused had appeared at the Commission's office early on Monday morning ahead of their trial, except Tompolo.

Upon sending his lawyer to represent him in court on Monday, Tompolo was accused of disrespecting the judicial system and was given a firm warning against issuing directives "from the comforts of his bedroom."

Tompolo's case has since been adjourned to February 19.
