Calabar - While some states are owing their workers salaries, civil servants in Cross Rivers have condemned the decision of the state government to pay them their salaries very early.
Gov Ben Ayade had paid the December salaries of workers in the state on the first day of the month.
This would be the second time that workers would be receiving salaries on the first day of the month as they had in May 2016 got a similar gesture from the governor in commemoration of the Workers’ Day celebration.

But Gov Ayade has come under heavy criticism from the workers, who claimed that the move will cause untold hardship to them, reports Punch.
The workers complained about the gesture, stating that the early payment will make the Yuletide month difficult for them as most of them will have exhausted their salaries before Christmas.
The aggrieved workers noted that January was usually a tough month, and getting salaries in the middle of December will help sustain them for the early days of January.
