Cultists kill 16 in Rivers

Port Harcourt - Sixteen persons were shot dead in Ula Upata community, Ahoada East Local Government area of Rivers State by suspected cultists, reports Punch.

One of those killed was a Police Corporal.

The cultists were said to have opened fire on innocent indigenes of the area, killing and injuring some of them in the process.

The assailants after killing ten in Ula Upata village moved to Ahoada West to kill another six persons.

An eye witness, Frank Alabi said he was in his room in the village when suddenly he started hearing gunshots, adding that he quickly ran into a nearby bush where he monitored all that happened.

He said the cultists numbering about five carried three AK47 and two pump action.

Quick intervention by men of the Nigerian Police prevented the situation from escalating.
