Dasuki trial further postponed

03 May 2016, 18:28

Abuja - The Federal Government has again failed to produce former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, before a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja for trial on corruption charges.

The failure of the Department of State Security Services (DSS) to release Dasuki to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) scuttled the trial.

At the resumed of the case on Tuesday, counsel to the EFCC, Oluwaleke Atolagbe informed Justice Baba Yusuf he had made efforts through the EFCC to contact the DSS to produce Dasuki but could not secure his release.

In his ruling, Justice Yusuf urged the prosecution to produce the defendant in court as required by law.

He has granted an adjournment of the trial to May 23.

DSS arrested Dasuki on On December 1.

He is accused of stealing $2 billion and awarding phantom contracts to buy 12 helicopters, four fighter jets, and ammunition meant for the Nigeria's military campaign against Boko Haram Islamist militants.

Dasuki was security advisor between 2012 and 2015.
