#DasukiGate: Former NSA files new application to stop trial

22 January 2016, 06:49

Abuja - Sambo Dasuki, the former National Security Adviser (NSA), has filed a fresh application in court to stop his trial for charges related to the arms scandal, Punch has reported.

Although Judge Baba Yusuf fixed 22 December for the commencement of Dasuki's trial on Thursday, it could not be ascertained whether or not Dasuki's latest application would be reviewed.

According to lawyers who had seen Dasuki's application, he had submitted the application on the grounds that the prosecution was allegedly in contempt of court for disobeying a court order granting Dasuki bail.

Judge Yusuf had granted the former NSA bail on December 18 in the amount of N250 million with one surety.

After meeting his bail conditions and being released from police custody, Dasuki was promptly re-arrested by officials from the Department of State Affairs, under whose custody he has remained ever since.

The commencement of the trial remains fixed for 10 a.m this morning.
