Abuja - Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa,
has assured prompt payment of civil servants’ salaries despite the current
economic problems plaguing the state and Nigeria in general.
Okowa said regardless of the challenges, the welfare of
workers remained a priority of his administration.
Okowa gave the assurance this during meeting with the
executive members of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) from the South
East, South-South, and South-West geographical zones in the country.
They met in Asaba, the state capital.

The governor reiterated the commitment of the present
administration to the welfare of civil servants in the state.
“They are the vehicles to drive the programmes and
policies of the state government towards actualizing the SMART Agenda"
SMART is an acronym for Strategic wealth creation,
Meaningful peace building, Accelerated industrialisation, Relevant health and
educational policies and Transformed environment through urban renewal.
Okowa added the state would stop at nothing in sustaining
its labour-friendly disposition in order to promote industrial harmony in the

Delta state has huge deposits of crude oil and
is also one the largest producers of petroleum products in Nigeria. The
plummeting price of oil has led to a reduction in revenues.
