Abuja - The Speaker of the Delta State House of
Assembly, Monday Igbuya, has paid tribute to workers for their contributions to
the country’s economic development.
In a message coinciding with Workers’ Day, he said the
administration of Governor Ifeanyi Oowa would complement workers’ efforts by
promoting investment and paying salaries timely.
“This administration is labour friendly. Workers will
continue to receive recognition and encouragement,” Igbuya assured.
“The place of labour will continue to be side by side with
the political actors and not one degree lower. The House of Assembly will give
the fullest support and protection to workers’ rights,” he added.

He urged the workers to support the administration of Okowa.
“The future of Delta State is not just in the hands of the
government. It is in the hands of the Parliamentary Staff Association of
It is in the hands of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). It is
in the hands of Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC).”
Igbuya however conceded revenue was still too low to meet
salary demands by some workers but promised to tackle these grievances.
“With your help, we can weed out ghost workers and ghost
pensioners and end the stealing and wastage of public resources,” he said.
