Diezani shuns Reps panel on oil deals

03 March 2016, 09:48

Abuja - The immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke on Wednesday shunned the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the crude oil swap contracts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The committees had on February 21 summoned the former minister to explain her role in the lifting of crude oil worth $24bn in exchange for refined petroleum products.

At the resumed sitting of the committee on Wednesday, the former minister neither appeared in person nor sent a representative to defend the allegations against her.

The summons were issued after three former GMDs of the NNPC –Austin Oniwon, Andrew Yakubu and Joseph Dawha – had informed the committee that Alison-Madueke approved the contracts without signing any valid agreements with the firms.

Chairman of the committee, Zakari Mohammed said the committee would take the appropriate steps to address the absence of the former minister.
