Lagos - Medical doctors in Lagos state have protested the alleged frequent harassment they face from officers of the police force, reports Vanguard.
The medical doctors under the auspices of Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, AGPMPN, Lagos State Chapter, said that the most recent harassment involved one of their colleagues, Dr. Olafisoye Odunayo of Awoyaya, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.
He said Dr Odunayo was manhandled and arrested by the police after a female patient with Pre-Eclampsia, in December, last year died after surgery following complications of surgery.
The relatives of the deceased who were not impressed with the way the doctor handled the situation reported the matter at the police station.
The doctor spent about two weeks in detention and was eventually released on bail with the condition to report periodically to the Elemoro Police Station.
The association’s chairman, Dr. Adeyeye Arigbabuwo said the development made them to voice out their grievances against the police.
