Don't render Nigeria ungovernable, Church warns NLC

Abuja - The Catholic Church in Nigeria has called on labour to rethink their decision to embark on a nationwide strike, citing fears that the industrial action could lead to Nigeria being thrown into chaos, Naij reports.

According to a Naij report, Communication Director for the Archdiocese of Abuja, Rev. Fr. Patrick Alumuku, urged Nigerians to work with the Federal Government and give them the benefit of the doubt, stressing that tough economic times are not a local, but international epidemic.

"Are we going to throw the country into another chaos or we are going to go on and have salary not paid? Or are we going to allow ourselves to make this sacrifice?" Alumuku questioned.

The coalition of the National Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Unions Congress (TUC) and the Joint Action (JAF) has stuck to their original plan, vowing to go ahead with a nationwide strike set for later today, All Africa has reported.
