Drama as minister disowns budget

09 February 2016, 10:17

Abuja - Members of the Senate Health Committee were shocked on Monday when the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole during a budget defence rejected his ministry’s budget.

The Minister told the committee that his ministry’s budget had been largely distorted, claiming that some individuals had smuggled strange figures into it.

The Minister informed the committee that there were some health issues on which conclusions had not been made by the ministry and yet allocations were made on them without the ministry’s knowledge.

He urged the committee to discard the budget proposal before it and await a new estimate to be re-submitted on Tuesday.

Adewole’s revelation compelled the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Senator Lanre Tejuosho to call for an immediate executive session with the Minister with a view to resolving the areas of controversy in the budget.

The entire 2016 Budget has been a subject of controversy as the budget was withdrawn on the basis that it contained some anomalies.

The anomalies forced President Muhammadu Buhari to write the National Assembly, requesting to a submit a new copy of the budget.
