Driver arrested for stealing 26 crates of beer

Lagos - A driver, Jude Okere, was arrested by Lagos police for allegedly stealing 26 crates of Orijin Beer worth N425,500. Okere, who resides in Ogun is to appear in court to face charges of stealing.

Prosecutors claim that the accused, who was a driver with Cryslad Nigeria was requested to deliver the crates of beer to a customer in Abia State. Okere departed on October 7 but only returned to Lagos on December 3. The expected time for the trip was five days, with the accused failing to account for the missing beer and his whereabouts.

The crime carries a maximum punishment of three years with the accused pleading not guilty to the crime.

Chief Magistrate, Alexander Komolafe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.

He said that the sureties must show evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government. Komolafe adjourned the case till Feb. 10, 2016, for hearing.
