Ebonyi's Umahi lauded as best performing governor

15 January 2016, 20:41

Abuja - The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has urged local governors to emulate their counterpart in Ebonyi State, David Umahi.

Lawal, during a visit to the state, lauded Umahi's ‘pragmatic type of governance’ since the latter assumed office last year.

He said he would recommend Umahi’s style to President Muhammadu Buhari.

“It should be a model for other governors to emulate,” said Lawal.

“Governor David Umahi has performed more than what we see others do in the last six months.  I will tell Mr. President that this state is a model of development for our country.”

Lawal applauded the prudence and integrity with which Umahi was managing the lean resources available to the state.

He said regardless of the fact Umahi belonged to the rival People’s Democratic Party (PDP), deserved praise.

Lawal is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“We like such people but we will not envy them if they remain in PDP because they also challenge APC governors to perform. That is the essence of opposition and competition in politics.”
