Edo - The member representing Egor/Ikpoba- Okha Federal Constituency of Edo State at the House of Representatives, Ehizogie Agbonayinma, has donated food and other material to local workers that are owed salaries for over a year.
It is reported the cash-strapped council owes them 14 months salaries.
The lawmaker presented the items to workers during his visit to the local secretariat.
He expressed sadness that the workers still had to cater for families and pay bills.
“It is disheartening and sad to know that a worker who has a family to cater for and bills to pay can be allowed to work for 14 months without pay,” said Agbonayinma.
“I share in the pains and agony of these workers, and in my own little way, I donated food items and other materials to them, in the hope that this will help to alleviate some of their sufferings,” Agbonayinma added.
The lawmaker who had earlier raised this crucial issue at the floor of the National assembly, also use the opportunity call on the state and local government to expedite action and made sure these workers get their salaries.
“I want to use this medium to call on the state and Local government to expedite action and make sure these workers get their arrears they have worked hard for,” Agbonayinma said.
