EFCC boss denies lobbying lawmakers to retain chairmanship seat

Abuja - The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused some media of mischief after reports acting chairman , Ibrahim Magu, was lobbying some senate leaders over his role becoming permanent.

A daily paper on Monday carried a report suggesting the lobbying.

“The Commission wishes to state that this information is patently false,” EFCC stated.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has given him a delicate job to fight corruption in Nigeria and he is fully focused on this mandate.”

Magu expressed satisfaction with progress attained in fighting corruption.

This includes over 200 convictions and assets and properties running into billions of dollars recovered within a space of one year.

EFCC said stakeholders from within and outside, including the generality of media, acknowledged the gains.

“The challenge before the Commission is the sustenance of the current tempo of activities and it will not be distracted by mischief from a section of the media.”

Magu has been acting chairman since November 2011 after replacing Ibrahim Lamorde.
