EFCC pressurising me to incriminate Patience Jonathan – Dudafa

08 November 2016, 09:56

Abuja - An aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of mounting pressure on him to incriminate former First Lady, Patience Jonathan.

Dudafa, who served as a Senior Assistant on Domestic Matters to the former President, made the allegation in a petition to the National Human Rights Commission, reports Premium Times.

The petition was dated November 4.

He noted that despite meeting the bail conditions granted him by two federal judges, the commission has refused to release him.

Dudafa says he wonders why he is yet to be granted bail by the anti-graft despite fulfilling the bail conditions.

My only sin is that I have refused to yield to the Commission’s pressure to write false statements to incriminate the former first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.”

Spokesperson for the EFCC Wilson Uwujaren has, however, denied Dudafa’s claims.

He said the commission is not aware of any petition by Dudafa.

Dudafa was arrested by operatives of the State Security Service (DSS) in Lagos on April 16, 2016 while attempting to travel out of the country.

He was later handed over to the EFCC.

He was allegedly involved in the sharing of N10bn to delegates during the December 2014 presidential primaries of the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It was believed that the fund was part of the alleged $2.1billion meant for the purchase of arms.

The N10bn was believed to have been diverted from oil receipts as follows: $5m (November 14,2014); $47m (November 27,  2014); €4m (December 3, 2014) and €1.6m(December 24, 2014).

The commission in May said it has recovered N900m fom Dudafa.

The looted funds are said to have been recovered following Dudafa’s declaration that he had no money, despite N900 million having been discovered in one of his bank accounts.
