Elated Borno IDPs receive relief material

26 November 2015, 20:26

Borno - The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has provided relief material to thousands of internally-displaced people  in the terror-prone Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The agency’s Information Officer in the restless Northeast region, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said the distribution was in line with the continuation efforts to bring sucour to distressed inhabitants of liberated communities affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in the region.

Residents welcomed the timely boost.

“On arrival at Dikwa, thousands of visibly elated residents lined the streets to welcome the team,” said Ibrahim.

The team included the NEMA mobile medical unit, United Nations Children’s Fund  and local government health workers embarked on erection of tents, immunisation of children and administration of drugs to those requiring medical attention.

NEMA distributed food and non food relief items including tents, medical supplies, firewood and cooking utensils.

The agency assured the IDPs that as soon as final clearance was received from the military, it would rehabilitate structures destroyed by insurgents to enable the displaced communities to return to their homes.

This is the second time that NEMA has taken relief items to Dikwa in recent months.

“In due course, more liberated communities in Bama, Gwoza, Askira Uba, Marte and Baga Local Government Areas are expected to benefit from operations of such nature,” said Ibrahim.
