Emir of Ilorin describes Fulani herdsmen as peaceful people

30 August 2016, 11:39

Ilorin - The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Traditional Council of Chiefs, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has absolved Fulani herdsmen of responsibility for all the atrocities committed across the country, Vanguard reports.

The emir stated this on Monday when members of Balogun Gambari community paid him a thank you visit over the elevation of the Balogun Gambari of Ilorin, Adedayo Balogun, as the most senior chancellor in Ilorin Emirate Council.

He said it was not true that Fulani herdsmen were responsible for the destruction of lives and property in some parts of the country stressing that Fulanis were peaceful, lovable and honest in their dealings with other tribes.

He, however, urged individuals to always assess issues and desist from embarking on controversial matters capable of causing disharmony in the country.

The emir's statement is coming few days after suspected Fulani herdsmen on Thursday attacked Atakwu community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State according to News24.

The attackers killed ‎a seminarian of the Catholic Church and several others.

The herdsmen who were armed to teeth invaded and started shooting and maiming anybody in sight.
